Here is an antique dry card ship/boat compass. Here is the story I was told when I bought it at the estate auction: Supposedly, this was found in the late 1890s or early 1900s in a cave on the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada. It was found with some other maritime items, which were also sold at the auction (pulleys, brass pieces, wo...od pieces, etc). I looked all over this thing and I cannot find a name or number or any kind of marking! The wooden box has hand cut dovetails and it is definitely old! The lid is missing. The wood box definitely fits the 19th century type from the research I have done. The compass actually still does work. I have not attempted to take this apart to see if maybe there is a name on the underside of the compass card. The compass itself measures 3" in diameter. The wooden box measures approx. 5 x 5 x 4. The seal material on the glass has dried, but it is still firmly attached. I have 12 pics. Please look at all the pics and judge for yourself condition and possible age.
