Here is a very rare early vintage original autographed double weight 7 1/2" by 9 1/2" photo of actress Alice Joyce (1890-1955), dated on reverse as received in 1918 (part of an estate collection of autographed movie photos all from 1918; see current listing for Mabel Normand). Alice Joyce made her first film, "The Deacon's Daughter", in 1910. She appeared in over 200 films, all but a few in the silent era. Among her best known movies were The Courage of Silence (1917), The Green Goddes...s (1925, remade by her as a talkie in 1930), and Beau Geste (1926). During her heyday, she was called "the Madonna of the Screen." She made few films after the advent of sound, returning to the vaudeville circuit. Her first husband was actor Tom Moore (see my separate listing for his autographed photo), her third, film director Clarence Brown. A very rare very early autograph from her prime.
