Vintage DW 4x5 KRIS OF CHICAGO Chuck Renslow KIP BEHAR AT HOME Yawn & Stretch
Item History & Price
This rare print is in VERY GOOD condition, with a noticeable crease at top at the edge of the left corner and margin that creeps slightly into the image area (but which easily could be matted out). Behar models appear in... Kris Catalog #7, which I have scanned for your reference and authentication, but which is NOT included as part of this auction.
I'm sorry to report that CHUCK RENSLOW (1929-2017)passed away on June 29, 2017 after a lingering illness. There are numerous onlineobituaries (and innumerable tributes on his Facebook page), all of which areworth reading through or adding to your files if you're a serious collector ofclassic physique photography. Additionally, Renslow was the subject of twobooks, Kris: The Physique Photography ofChuck Renslow, published in 2008, and Leatherman:The Legend of Chuck Renslow, published in 2011.
KIPBEHAR (SOLOMON BEHAR / SOL BEHAR) was born April 12, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York, and played football (fullback) and performed gymnastics in highschool. He completed his high school diploma while enlisted in the U.S. MarineCorps. His physique posing career began when he was stationed as a PrivateFirst Class with the Marines at Camp Pendleton in California. At six feet talland 195 pounds, he cut an imposing figure, and 1957 seems to be the year whenhe fully sowed his oats as a physique model. That year, first while enlistedand then after leaving the Marine Corps, he posed for a number of prominentphysique photographers, including APOLLOPRODUCTIONS (Richard Fontaine), KRIS OF CHICAGO (Chuck Renslow), JACK SIDNEY, VULCAN (Tony Guyther), ATHLETIC MODEL GUILD (Bob Mizer), BOB DELMONTEQUE, SPARTAN OF HOLLYWOOD (Constantine Hassalevris), BRUCE OF LOS ANGELES (BruceBellas), and others. In short order, Behar's photos were appearingregularly in Adonis, Grecian GuildPictorial, Male Classics, Muscle Builder, Today's Man, Tomorrow's Man, Fizeek, Popular Man, Zing, MANual, Vim and other physique magazines. A photocaption in an issue of Vim noted, "Kip Behar is a veteran of the Marines, a gymnast, and a hand-balancer, which explains why he is both rugged and agile. He's 19 years old, and a very handsomehunk of blue-eyes blond manhood at 6' tall and 183 pounds." Bruce of LosAngeles (Bruce Bellas) waxed poetic about Behar, as well, in a heavilyillustrated 10-page profile in his magazine TheMale Figure, Vol. 9. Their sessions, shot on September 27, 1957, producedenough quality material for Bruce to offer a staggering seven series of 12poses each in that issue. His peak may have been reached when he starred in (and made the poster for) the 1960s film "Beauty and the Body."
PLEASE NOTE that the various magazine, poster and catalog images of Kip Behar shown with my listing are for your amusement and reference, but they are NOT included as part of this auction.I'm starting this auction at a very reasonable opening bid amount, with FREE SHIPPING within the U.S.
Please check out my other auctions for similar items, and thanks forlooking!PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS: I accept PayPal, allegedly "the world's most loved way to get paid" (despite any factual substantiation for that ridiculous claim) because I am forced to do so by the formerly vertically integrated monopoly (now separate companies, so that they are merely partners-in-collusion), to the exclusion of other payment methods that are equally safe, convenient to me as a longtime seller, but which do not generate greater fee profitability for the mothership.Your item(s) will ship promptly upon receipt of your payment, despite my surly attitude toward the once-innovative company that still produces no product, warehouses no product, ships no product, but which eats me alive in fees.
WHY DO I OFFER FREE SHIPPING WITHIN THE U.S.? Because of eBay'sdecision to take a piece of sellers' shipping costs, effectively triple-dippingby earning fees on my listings, fees on the PayPal transactions that aremandated, and fees on a portion of shipping costs. My stellar feedback attests to the fact that my U.S. buyersappreciate free shipping.
REFUND POLICY: Please read my item descriptions carefully, and ask anyquestions you may have before placing your bid. I do not accept returnsor offer refunds on my items. Review my feedback and bid with confidence.
