Original Description:
Up for auction is a very unusual Lionel Factory Error of the 6456 Hopper Car in black.
This car was made in 1949 based on the color and the staple end trucks affixed to the frame. It comes with four metal steps and magnetic couplers. There is no lettering or graphics on the car. It was never lettered or numbered by the Lionel Factory. There is no evidence of it ever having been heat stamped. There are no indentations on the sides of the car for either numbers or letters. The paint a...nd all components are factory original.
This car should have been rejected by Lionel and not sold, but it apparently slipped through quality control. A nice piece of Lionel Factory history!!
