DESCRIPTION:This is superb Victorian Walnut and Mother of Pearl Inlaid writing box which dates to circa 1840 / 1860. This really is an superb article, as you can see from the photographs this writing box is made from the most exquisite Walnut which has the most superb grain. It has a stunning interior. The quality of thi...s box is exceptional. The top and key hole is beautifully inlaid with shaped decorative Mother of Pearl which sets it off beautifully, Then to the top and front the Mother of Pearl Inlay is framed in Tulip wood and then frames to the edge with Tunbridgeware which creates and exquisite effect. The box is complete with it's original lock and key which is a lovely feature. When the lid is lifted this reveals the tooled black leather and blue velvet writing slope. The top is then released by two catches to give access to a compartments which has been nicely polished. The bottom section of the writing slope contains two ink bottle compartment and is complete with it's lidded ink bottles. Then there is a stamp slide to one side and a lidded compartment to the other and a pen rest to the centre. To access the bottom compartments which has been nicely polished, the bottom section of the slope is lifted.
DIMENSIONS:The approximate dimensions are:
- 14 inches / 35.5 cm long- 9.5 inches / 24 cm deep- 6 inches / 15.5 cm high AGE:The writing box is circa 1840 / 1860. CONDITION:The writing box is in good condition, just minor knocks and marks commensurate with age as can be seen from the photographs. In addition along the black leather frame of the slope to the joint there is a section lacking to the left and right and the small piece of fabric to lift the bottom part of the slope is lacking, according to personal taste this could be given some attention to improve it, please view last photograph for a close image.
