Grassi & Fontana, Exeter, Circa 1830-40. Having an 8-inch silvered main dial reading from 28 to31 inches of pressure and engraved "Grassi & Fontana / ...Exeter" incursive script, silvered Fahrenheit scale alcohol thermometer in arched insert, 95cm, (37, 4") high. Mahogany (?) finish case.Literature: See NicholasGoodison, English Barometers 1680-1860, 1977, p. 306, where listed;"BULLA, GRASSI and FONTANA fl. 1830, 134 Fore St., Exeter". Grassiand Fontana are listed in partnership without dates. Bulla and Fontana are alsolisted individually, the latter still in Exeter in 1856.24, 5 cm wide.App. 2, 2 kg weight It is going to measure some 4 kg packed for shipment. NB I am planning to remove mercury for the safetransit – please bid accordingly.
