Country/Region of Origin: France | Original/Reproduction: Original |
Up for auction is this fine example of an antique, hand-painted, French porcelain lamp depicting beautifully hand-painted cherubs on one side, and on the reverse side, a hand painted cameo. As shown in my photo's, the lamp has detailed metal mounts of women's heads on either side of the lamp. I did not take the lamp apart to look for any possible Sevres mark, but identified the hand painted signature located on the lower left... side of the cherubs as "G. Danet". My research showed "G. Danet" as being listed as one of Sevres " Tourneur's or molders", which would date it to the 18th century. I am not an expert on Sevres porcelain, so for me to assert that this is definitely Sevres would be misleading and wrong. I will leave it up to those of you that have far more knowledge on Serves porcelain than I.
There is no visible damage or cracks throughout the porcelain. There is very minor play to the porcelain body of the lamp which needs minor tightening.
One of the head mounts, as shown in photo, has very minor play where the pin on the back of the head mount does not stay inserted, as shown in photo.
The lamp measures approximately from the base to the top of the harp, 28 inches tall; from the base to the top of the figural metal head mounts approx. 17 inches in height; across from metal head mount to metal head mount measures approx. 8 inches across; and the lamp base measures approx. 5 inches square.
