Original Description:
From a local estate, here is an early and scarce Meissen tea bowl (no handles) with the matching saucer in the puce color (dark red). It is beautifully decorated with a monochrome glaze and kakiemon style flowers. It was made during the 1770's when Camillo Marcolini was overseeing a good deal of Meissen's operations and he introduced many new styles and ideas to the company. This was also known as the "dot period" for Meissen because the...ir maker's mark began to use a single dot between the traditional crossed swords near the bottom. The saucer for this set is near perfect. It measures 4 7/8" in diameter and is 1" high. The tea bowl measures 2 7/8" in diameter at the top and is 1 3/4" high. It is also in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs...there is just some common roughness around the very bottom rim from use. Really a beautiful pattern and the rich puce color makes the floral pattern and gold accents really work well together. It would make a nice addition to any collection.
