ANTIQUE FOLDING FAN PALE GREEN SILK SATIN WITH BONE BLADES
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:6902472 | Primary Material: Silk & Fabric |
Color: Green | Modified Item: No |
Age: Unknown | Original/Reproduction: Antique Original |
A lovely and delicate pale green and ecru textured silk satin fan, made late 1800's or early 1900's. Very good to excellent antique condition. Quite unusual that it is not the typical lace or hand painted style. This is a very sophisticated and elegant Late Victorian or Edwardian piece.
I believe that the spokes and guard ends are bone, as they show a grain along the length and a bone structure at the ends. There are 2 tiny mother-of-pearl discs at the ...pivot pin at the base. The fan is backed with what appears to be a very fine ecru silk taffeta.
It is 11" long when folded closed. and 21" across when fully open.It is in the original (I assume) box from a famous jeweler in Brooklyn, William Wise and Son. They existed from the mid 1800's until the 1970's.
This is from an historic estate. The estate sale sticker is on the box lid. I acquired it from the estate sale, early/mid 1980's. A fan box from the estate is signed and dated 1879.The last owner's name is on a label inside the box cover. The named estate address is on the National Register of Historic Places. Her name is connected to both Brooklyn and Eastern Shore of MD.
