Original Description:
This is a sweet little primitive collection of early farm clothing. You get the antique black calico work dress and bonnet and shoes all together in this sale so they are ready to hang on your favorite peg rack or the pieces are totally wearable if you need something for your next reenactment event or perhaps for Halloween when it comes around again. Check out all the pics...it's a wonderful instant collection and I know you will just love how it makes your house a homestead or makes y...ou feel like Tasha Tudor when you wear the same type of original 1800's clothing she did back in her day. Isn't it fun? :)
This dress is fabulous! The fabric is a good simple pattern and it's black with not much fading overall. It's all hand stitched except for the ready made bodice they used quite often back in those days. Many times they bought the bodice at the general store and made the dress to fit it just as this one is. The style on this one is unique too. The shoulders are puffy just as prairie work dresses should be but it fastens with old glass buttons and some very old hooks. Again see the pics. The bodice has hooks all down the front too that tuck away inside. The waist has a hook that can be readjusted for proper wear. Overall this dress is a remarkable survivor and is in good wearable shape with not much to apologize for other than general wear and it's an early original and has been stored well over the years.
The dress measurements are:
Shoulder to shoulder seam:  13 across when laying flat
Waist: about 26 +/- with lots of extra gathered fabric to alter if needed
Chest: about 33 =/- and can be altered if needed
Sleeves:  20 inches long
Overall length of dress: 49-50 inches
The antique prairie bonnet is also just as wonderful as the dress. It is made from tiny striped black calico and it ties in the back and under the chin. It also has a string tie inside in the back to adjust the back ruffle. The brim is deep to keep the sun off your face while gardening and overall this bonnet is a good size for even a modern day woman to wear. It measures about 20 inches long and 12 inches deep when laying flat. It has some early repairs and some wear but it's definitely an old original and not one that has been newly made in the last 100 years.
The shoes are also totally wearable and although the leather has some storage age on it overall they have not been worn much other than maybe for a special occasion as the soles are still very smooth and unscathed for the most part. The brand name stamped on the bottom and tagged inside is called " The Drew Selby" Company which is from Ohio. They are marked inside with size 35 which is probably a modern day size five maybe. They tie with make do hemp laces which adds quite a bit of charm to them.
Again please study the pics and ask any questions prior to bidding or buying.
