If you check my listingsregularly, you know that about once a month, I list an exemplary copy of theBeercan and like previous listings, this one will not disappoint. It is anothervery fine example of the vintage “Beercan”, Minolta’s 70-210mm f/4 telephoto zoomlens (S/N 10729xx) in near mint condition.
This ...lens is a beauty and infine condition with just the very lightest signs of gentle use upon very closeinspection. No major scratches or obvious wear, and I’m splitting hairs really.It’s a 30 year old lens and for its age, it is practically mint. Even the gold“Passed” sticker is still present and in mint condition. The mount, caps and metal1st generation hood all look great too. This one’s a beauty.
Optically, the lens ispristine with no fungus inside or scratches on the glass surfaces. Pristine. I cannotsee any dust particles inside the lens, but in any case, if present, a fewdust particles will not affect your image quality. The aperture blades areclean and snappy and the mount looks perfect.
The zoom and focus rings movesmoothly and the rubber grip appears unworn. The zoom rotation is deliberate –with a decent resistance when you rotate it, not worn out and sloppy. Overall, this is a very nice lens and I'd rate it a 9.9/10.

I’ve sold dozens of these Minolta70-210/4 lenses to eBayers. If youare looking for a beercan, I know that you appreciate nicer gear so I am overlycritical in my item descriptions. That way, buyers receive a lens that meets orhopefully exceeds their expectations when it arrives.
Optically, this lens producesfine images and it deserves the reputation it has earned amongst Minolta andnow Sony photographers. You would have to spend 5-8x more and use an HS APO G white lens to see any appreciable improvementin the already very fine image quality of this lens on a big enlargement. The biggest difference between the two is notin image quality, but rather, the size of the glass (and weight) along with themaximum (f/2.8) aperture that those big white beasts offer that makes for thehuge price difference.
