Item History & Price
The Sale is for a Mens Stunning TIMEX Marlin "Telephone" look Vintage 1974 Day/Date Mechanical Set and Wind Wristwatch. This Timepieces photos do not nearly do justice to this amazing Collectors Timex. The case is also a hybrid between a round and cushion look with extended pointed lugs that flow from the sides. The finish is in gold with a high polish on a case that has originally sharp corners and edges. The case sides give it a curving effect in both planes. The case to...p radius' up to a flat top that varies in thickness with its relation to the sides. The top edges to a domed acrylic crystal that is also recessed into the case for a friction tight fit. The crystal is new and NOS correct, a genuine Timex piece. The crystal is clear and scratch free as it should be. The Dial is a magnificent Optic Blue Marlin that should be called Blue Burst. Add to that the "Telephone" effect with the Arabic hours recessed in a gold ring with Script effect. It provides the appearance of the old time rotary phones with the numbers in a circle that was rotated to make a call. It is almost hypnotic, and you may find yourself wanted to make an old time telephone call. The only exception to these numbers effect is the 3 oclock that has the day/date windows that have the same affect as the other hour numbers. The hands are gold finished wide baton style with a center needle of black line. The sweep second is a needle style in black. The crown is a slightly recessed gold barrel style that is used to wind and set. The case back is stainless and is friction fit. The back is engraved with this Timex's correct model information. The movement is a Timex model 27 which is a model 24 with a date/day function. It was made famous by Timex in its advertising as it, "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking". Originally made to be disposible and repairable, it has proven both to be wrong. This movement has been serviced by a professional in both its cleaning and lubrication. While it cannot function at the level of a quartz and even many modern mechanicals when it comes to accuracy, it does provide decent timekeeping in the manner it was intended. The straps are genuine padded Brown leather with a double hump look in its smooth finish. If a different style strap/band is desired, please let me know before shipping and i am sure we can provide you with something to your liking. We actually have many time correct examples that would work well with this model. For an almost half century old Timepiece i am positive and even guarantee that you will be delighted with this collectors Timex.
