RARE Vintage Bud Fried B/2 Monitor Speakers, Dalesford D30/110 & Dynaudio D - 28

This listing is for one very rare set of Fried (pronounced "freed") B/II bookshelf monitor loudspeakers. These date to the late 1970s and are a direct competitor to the famous Rogers LS3/5A and the JR-149.
The Model B/2 are the successor to the Fried Model B. The Model B, LS3/5A, and JR-149 all used a KEF B110 mid woofer and a KEF T27 tweeter. These Model B/2 use Dynaudio D-28 horn loaded tweeters and Dalesford D30/110 mid woofers.These parts alone still fetch high prices on the use...d market. The Model B/2 was sold both as a DIY kit, and as a fully assembled speaker. The cabinets have rounded front baffles which was done to improve high frequency dispersion.
Many reviews indicate that the B/2 are better than LS3/5A designs in nearly every way. The Dalesford 5" woofer offers deeper bass response than the KEF B110. The Dynaudio D-28 (28mm dome) horn loaded tweeter has very high power handling and is more detailed than the KEF T27. When it comes to sound stage and imaging, the B/2 have wide presentation like the JR-149 but with the pinpoint accuracy of the LS3/5A. The LS3/5A have a midbass hump to give the perception of deeper bass, while as mentioned earlier the B/2 have a flatter response while digging deeper. These speakers are in good condition for their age. You'll notice my pair has a ring of glue on the front baffle. This is because I had to remove the foam grills which were falling apart. The grills on these speakers were a lightweight, black, open cell foam just like what the Bose 301 Series 1 use. There was a chunk knocked out of the cabinets on a bottom edge. I repaired this with wood filler and have painted it to minimize how noticeable it is. If you didn't notice it in your first look at my photos then that just goes to show how minimal the imperfection is! The cabinets have recently been touched up with Old English and the genuine wood veneers still look great to this day.
