I’m offering today one of the cutest Vintage dolls ever! This doll is an American Character Doll and known as Toodles. She is all heavy vinyl doll and was made in 1958. Her face will put a smile on your face when you look at her big flirty eyes.
I will start from the top of her head and work my way down describing her so I don't omit anything. Her hair is auburn... color which is full, thick and curly. It is cut in a short baby hair cut which frames her face beautifully. The back of her neck is marked: "American Character Doll Co.". She is wearing a pink/white polka dot gross grain bow with pink boa feathers hair band with large bow on top to compliment her pink ruffled dress. Her hazel eyes are what they call "flirty" eyes which means they go from side to side and allow you to position her in different poses which the eyes will follow you. Her eyelashes are long and have been save from her previous little mommies cutting them. One eyelash has a few lashes missing, but nothing serious. The eyes open and close freely. So when you lay her down, she will go to sleep.
Her dainty nose has open nostrils for realism. She has a precious rose bud shape mouth with dark pink color. There is a hole in the center of her mouth for feeding doll bottle. As I mention on most of my vintage dolls that have a hole for feeding I wouldn't recommend doing this on these old dolls. I understand most new mommies will do this if they so desire. I have always been afraid of doing this for fear of harming the dolly. Toodles has pudgy round cheeks with lots of color to match her rose bud lips.
Her body is heavy vinyl with joints at the neck, arms and legs. Her vinyl is clean and her hair is clean. She is wearing a bracelet I made for her with her name. Now to her adorable dress! She is wearing a powder pink lace ruffled one piece with rows upon rows of pink lace. The ruffles go all the way down below her knees. The one piece is tied at the shoulders which allows her sweet arms to peek through. I chose this designer ruffle after ruffle after ruffle pink tulle tutu skirt to go over her pink lace one piece.
Toodles is wearing pink socks with delicate pink lace trim. She is wearing white vintage patent leather mary jane shoes from my personal collection of vintage shoes from the 1980's era. I added pink satin flower to decorate the top of each shoe. They are new and have never been worn. Toodles will come with her very own pink teddy bear. It has been cleaned and washed and is ready to accompany her mommy to her new home.
She has been in my collection for many years and over the course of years I clean my dolls and try to avoid them from ageing by doing so. They are not played with by children who come and visit; I know that sounds mean, but sometimes they play too rough. My dolls are kept in a doll room specifically for them and are displayed for everyone to enjoy.
All my dolls are truly loved and cared for as though they were my children. Their clothes are either original to the doll, made by me, I've tried finding doll clothing from the same era as the doll or find clothing which match the personality of the doll. We do not smoke and I try very hard to keep a tidy clean home free of dust and odor. My dolls are clean and most of the time look as though they did when they were sold new. Depending on how old they are, I do try to be honest in detailing if some of the dolls have bruises, missing toes or fingers or other issues, but that doesn't mean they aren't worth having; for each one is like children.....they are all beautiful in their mothers eyes. If I've missed something it would never be intentional. SIZE:
This is a large baby doll which stands approximately 20" tall. Her little teddy bears stands approximately 7" tall.
CONDITION:
It's hard to believe this doll is from 1958. She has beautiful coloring. Eyes open/close freely and go from side to side. She can be posed either standing up or sitting. Her clothes are newer, but just go perfectly on Toodles. Her body and hair is clean and she comes from smoke free home. A few of her eyelashes are missing, but nothing serious. I would say she is in good condition. Please remember this doll is from 1958 and will not be perfect. I've tried to disclose any imperfections. She is a beautiful baby doll, but not new.
