This remarkable hand carved figure of laminated poplar (with shellacked surface) most likely dates from the 1950’s-early 1960’s as the figure appears to be based on the Tom Corbett-era astronaut. Measuring 12 ½” tall x 4 ½” x 1 ¾” deep overall, the figure is nicely rendered with sleek lines accented by brutalist-inspired carved marks. The face is well defined and handsome and there are original pencil lines visible under the clear-coat. I see no damage repairs or losses; h...e is rather dusty from years of display.
