In my opinion, the Gainsborough Portrait dolls created by Madame Alexander had some of the most beautiful gowns the company ever made. They look wonderful on vintage Cissy dolls and should also fit similarly shaped 19-21 inch dolls such as Miss Revlon, Belle Margie, Sweet Sue Sophisticate, Dollikin and 14R.The gown came in several colors. This version is made of heavy light blue taffeta beautifully overlaid with ivory floral lace. It has a taffeta cummerbund-style waist band that is de...corated with lovely pink silk flowers. The back of the gown features a wide, two-tiered bow that almost forms a bustle. The hat is made of woven ivory "straw." It has a wide brim and is fetchingly turned up on one side. It is decorated with a cloud of light blue tulle and two bunches of pink silk flowers. The gold chin strap has stretched out.The gown is tagged, "Gainsborough, " by Madame Alexander, New York, U.S.A. Both pieces are in excellent condition. The gown just needs gentle steam or pressing on the back bow to adjust the top tier. The items are clean, the colors are bright, and the fabric is crisp.
