A huge benefit. Even though brass changes color if not plated, you can take a piece of sandpaper and make it look new. The change is only superficial. Aluminum corrodes faster, bubbles and becomes a white powder which can't easily be restored. The oxide goes deep into the surface with aluminum, unlike the brass. A reason manufacturers may not use brass is that it's very expensive, 4x to 5x more expensive. ThompsonCenter Contender Super 16 forend for single screw mount barrels. It is in very nice condition with only a few light scuffs in the clear coat of the wood finish.
