AVO CT160 Tube And Valve Tester - Characteristic Meter

For sale by owner is this classic AVO Model C.T. 160 Valve(Tube) Tester, made by AVO Ltd, UK.    I purchased this Tester about 10 years ago.  An AVO Valve or Tube Tester is the RollsRoyce of tube testers, largely because an AVO Tester can perform a number oftests on a valve or a vacuum tube, including mutual conductance tests, and cantest the valve or tube under typical loads, which most testers cannot do.  This C.T. 160 Tester can be used on theservice ben...ch, or at remote locations or in the laboratory to test tubes or plot tubecharacteristics.  It is easily portable in its own sturdy carrying case.  I have owned different Tube Testers, Hickok, Philco and Military, and this AVO Type 160 Tester surpasses the others I’ve owned in the sense that it is very accurate, and can test more tube parameters, including directly measure mutual conductance, and test them under actual load, which most other valve or tube testers can not do.  It is clearly a high quality test instrument. The C.T. 160 Valve or Tube Tester can test the following types of tubes: Power Rectifiers, SignalDiodes, Multiple Diodes and Rectifiers, Double Triodes and Pentodes, FrequencyChangers, Tuning Indicators, Gasfilled Rectifiers, and Cold Cathode RectifiersThe C.T. 160 Valve Tester will - 1.  Check heatercontinuity2.  Measure insulationbetween electrodes with the valve cold.3.  Measure insulationbetween electrodes with the valve hot.4.  Measurecathode/heater insulation for directly heated valves.5.  Rapidly indicatewhether a valve is good or bad, by using a colored replace/good scale with mutualconductance as the operating parameter.6.  Measure directlythe mutual conductance of a valve.   7.  Measure anodecurrent in single and multi anode valves.8.  Produce sufficientdata to enable static characteristic curves to be plotted on graph paper9.  Check rectifiersand diodes under load conditions.10.  Measure gascurrent, limited to 100uA.11.  Measure screencurrent. Power Requirements: 105 – 120VAC, or 175-250VAC, 50-500Hz supplies Power consumption:  50watts maximum Weight:  24 lbs Size of Case:  15.5”Wx 11.5”D x 10”H The Tester is inside a metal case and when the case isopened, you can see that the Tester consists of two sections.  The top section consists mainly of 22different valve or tube sockets, along with a rotary switch to assign theelectrode of the tube to its pins.  Thebottom section houses all the controls for setting voltages and currents uniqueto each tube type, and performing the tests, along with a panel meter.  Power supply (mains) voltage is selected onthis section of the Tester as well. The AVO Working InstructionManual (38 pages) is included, along with power cord and grid tap cable.  Valveor tube data for setting up and testing all types of valves or tubes is notincluded, but is readily available on the internet for free download.  Packing for both domestic and international shipping will beby UPS in a strong double-walled box with strong honeycomb liner.  Shipping to domestic USA will be by USPSGround, and international shipping will by EBay International Global Shipping Program .   There is a handling charge of $60 included in the shipping cost for UPS to carefully pack the Tester.
