Original Description:
Offered for sale is a Realistic STA-2200 stereo receiver. The STA-2200 was introduced in 1980 utilizing the latest in digital computer technology for a product unmatched in quality, versatility and reliability. It was Realistics top receiver in 1980, having an MSRP of $430. The built-in microprocessor-controlled CMOS LSI Frequency Synthesizer eliminates the dial scale and replaces it with an LED signal display. The pre-amplifier section allows you to tailor the sound to your preference... with selectable turnover on the Tone controls and a wide range of inputs. The Power Amplifier delivers a solid 60 watts RMS per channel, powerful enough to drive two pairs of even the most inefficient speaker systems. In addition, the receiver features: FM front-end uses a dual-gate MOS FET for immunity from problems caused by overloading (local strong signals) and other spurious-response effects. Tuning is with Varicap Diodes, controlled by the Microprocessor (no mechanical tuning problems);  FM IF section incorporates 3 ICs resulting in very high gain and outstanding limiting characteristics (ultra-low-noise FM reception). Three linear-phase ceramic filters assure superb selectivity with lowest distortion. Quadrature detector and PLL stereo detector gives you the best possible FM and FM Stereo Signal with state-of-the-art separation; PLL Frequency-Synthesizing CMOS IC provides no drift, digital tuning; Real-time clock; MOS-FETs in the power amplifier for high-power with ultra-low distortion even at high frequencies; Automatic Protection Circuitry to protect against voltage surges, overloads, shorts and overheating.I've sold over 1000 receivers since I've began selling on eBay five years age and this is the second best sounding receiver I've had, just barely behind a Sherwood SEL-200 I sold about two years ago for $400.Both the owner and service manual can be downloaded free of charge from HiFi Engine. To view the complete manufacturer's specifications zoom into the last picture. The critics at the FM Tuner Information Center state that the STA-2200 may be the best sounding receiver that Realistic ever sold. The STA-2200 was reviewed in the February, 1980 issue of Stereo Review magazine. Here are some of their comments:"In practically every instance, our measurements matched or surpassed the manufacturer's specifications. It is unquestionably a fine stereo receiver, both in its tuner and amplifier performance...……..There are no signs of skimping in any area of its design and construction, and it is fully worthy of its place at the head of Realistic's 1980 audio line."I acquired this receiver from a local owner who had it in storage for the past 25 years. It played and sounded wonderful but had two issues. The power switch has 5 wires connected to it and controls 2 separate circuits. One to power it on and one to control the LED display. Obviously the switch became faulty and wouldn't power it on. Looks like the owner removed two of the wires that power it on and directed them into a push button switch that was installed through the top of the wood cabinet. In order to turn it on you had to use both switches, the new one and the original one. I found a power switch for it and replaced it and rewired it as it was intended. Worked perfectly, although when I removed the push button switch that was installed it left a nickel size hole in the top of the cabinet. Tried to patch it with some plastic wood but it looked like hell so I sanded off the original veneer and re-veneered the top of the cabinet only. Applied some medium walnut stain and sealed it with some Watko Danish oil. Matches the sides perfectly. The other issue was the digital LED display. The digit to the left of the decimal place of the station frequency is faulty and most of the time is not legible, in some cases the 4, 7 and 9 are legible but not always. The rest of the frequency digits are legible as well as the letter indicators. I've used this daily for about a week and picked up the knack of tuning it. Definitely not as easy if the one digit wasn't bad but it is tuneable, just takes a little more effort. The LED display appears built into one of the boards and I'm not sure if it replaceable. It looks like the easiest fix for it would to replace the whole board containing the display. Couldn't find this part and after looking at some of the past sales of the STA-2200 decided to sell it as is. Other than that  the receiver works perfect, everything else works as designed. It tunes perfect, both manual and automatic, FM plays well and sounds great, records sound excellent and play with no hum. AM works fine. All the push button controls work. Can easily be used the way it is or easily repaired to have a perfect receiver. As previously mentioned this is a very rare receiver. Usually only shows up once a twice a year on eBay. None are currently listed. I believe there were two sales this year, both in May. One sold for a shipped cost of $202, the FM or AM would not change stations and was sold as is. The other sold for a shipped cost of $326, would not play FM in stereo (just mono) and was sold as is. My BIN shipped cost is very reasonable when compared to these two sales. It is being offered as fully working (with the exception of the LED display) and is covered with an unconditional 30 day warranty. I normally don't allow returns after 14 days from delivery but I am so confident in the condition of this receiver I am offering a 30 day no questions asked return period (including return shipping!).  That's as good as getting a 30 day warranty absolutely free. I pack very well and just a couple of the over 1000 items I have sold were damaged during shipping but if your receiver arrives damaged simply return it for a full refund and I'll deal with the insurance claim. HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG?Free shipping offer valid for the lower 48 US states only. International purchasers will be responsible for shipping charges from the eBay global shipping headquarters located in Kentucky, USA through the eBay global shipping program.  Alaska, Puerto Rico and Hawaii residents are subject to a $50 shipping surcharge.08/04/19 UPDATE - HAD THIS RECEIVER PREVIOUSLY LISTED. MY CHESAPEAKE BAY RETREIVER PUPPY GOT INTO THE ROOM WHERE I KEEP MY STEREOS AND CHEWED THE CORD OFF OF THIS AND SEVERAL OTHER RECEIVERS. HAD TO INSTALL A NEW POWER CORD, NO SPLICES. ALSO, I FOUND THE BOARD THAT CONTAINED THE LED DISPLAY AND REPLACED IT, DID NOT CURE THE ISSUE WITH THE ONE DIGIT. I ALSO INSTALLED TWO NEW 10, 000 UF 100 VOLT AUDIO GRADE CAPACITORS, REPLACED THE ORIGINAL 10, 000 UF 63 VOLT CAPACITORS. THE NEW CAPCITORS ARE THE SAME DIAMETER AND HEIGHT AS THE OLD ONES.
