Painting is an oil on board: size is 12" x 15 3/4, " plus frame. Conserved to remove yellowed varnish. Framed in period style. Noted on reverse as to her address and the title of the work. I was able to locate the actual Brecksville Inn that she painted. See included picture. Beautiful example of Impressionism at its best! Let me know of any interest in this work.
Biography:Born in Cleveland i...n 1863, she was a graduate of the Cleveland School of Art in 1900. Additional artistic training was through the Cleveland Art Club and the Rhode Island School of Design. She became a teacher of art history and anatomy at the Cleveland School of Art for eighteen years. Ames was a founder of the Women's Art Club in Cleveland, as well as a member of the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors. Although she painted portraits and still life's, she preferred landscapes, especially sunlit scenes of abundant nature in spring and summer. She was particularly attracted to the picturesque scenes of the small towns and scenes around Cleveland.She was a frequent exhibitor in the Cleveland May Shows and local exhibits with the Women's Art Club. In addition, she was a national exhibitor in New York, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Detroit.
