For your consideration at this wonderful auction is a rare and vintage Apple External Floppy SuperDrive 1.4MB disk drive (FDHD). The enclosure originates from an Apple model M0131 (originally 800k plastic case) and part number 825-1174-A. This drive was custom upgraded, it no longer has an 800k disk drive inside, this was replaced with a 1.4MB internal Apple SuperDrive FDHD Drive (auto-inject mechanism) inside that supports high-density 1.4MB disks inside, disks formatted for... Mac OS and MS-DOS. It is beige in color and is compatible only with systems that support 1.4MB floppy disks (has the FDHD controller), including Macintosh Classic, Macintosh Classic II, Macintosh SE FDHD (after a ROM upgrade on the SE's main logic board), Macintosh SE/30, Macintosh Portable, Macintosh IIsi, Macintosh IIci, Macintosh IIcx, and Macintosh Performa 200 systems that feature the external floppy disk drive port (diamond shaped 19-pin port consisting of two horizontal rows of 10 pins on top and 9 pins on bottom). Compatibility with the Macintosh 128K, Macintosh 512k, Macintosh 512Ke, Macintosh Plus, standard Macintosh SE, Apple IIe PDS Card, Macintosh HD20 external hard drive are unsupported. In order to use this on an Apple IIgs as a 1.4MB floppy drive, the SuperDrive Card with part number 820-0500-A from 1991 must be installed in one of the expansion slots on the logic board. The classic rainbow Apple logo is on the front. System 7 is suggested, as the majority of System 7 programs were on 1.4MB floppy disks, and older operating systems, including earlier versions of System 6 may be unsupported. Unsupported systems or logic boards that lack the FDHD controller will render this 1.4MB drive as an 800k drive when in operation.
Product is being offered as-is with no warranty. There are no returns or refunds on this item. The enclosure may signs of wear and tear, including some scuffs, fading or yellowing caused to the aging plastics. When confirming a 1.4MB drive is retrofitted, the label under the plastic enclosure will have the word "800k" crossed out where it indicates "800k External Drive". Plastics and products are being offered as-is, with no warranty of guarantee of long-term functionality. Lucite acrylic stand on display is for decoration and is not included with purchase, and it is not for sale.
