REVISED: I was informed that this is an early and highly sought after version of the clock because it has what I was told is a "SPIN START." So the action needed to get the clock running is not only the normal function of the clock but it also signifies it ONE OF THE EARLIEST VERSION OF THE CLOCK AND MOST SOUGHT AFTER! ANTIQUE VINTAGE FDR MAN OF THE HOUR CLOCK UNITED CLOCK MOVEMENT 1933 FRANKLIN ROOSEVELTThe clock has lovely character with exquisite patina. Appears to have all the... original parts and pieces including the original cord. When the clock is plugged in an electrical hum can be heard. With a bit of coaxing and dial twisting the second hand starts to moves freely as it should. The hour and minute hand move as well. It has been continuing to run this way until I unplug it. When it is plugged back in it will not start unless you slightly turn the dial in the back. This may be a super simple repair but I can’t say for certain. Because of this I am selling the clock “AS IS”. A little background on the FDR ‘Man of the Hour’ clock:The clocks were manufactured in 1933 by the United Electric Clock company of Brooklyn, New York. They feature a statue of Roosevelt steering a ship’s wheel, with the motto “FDR, the man of the hour” engraved on the front of the base. The clocks were created to celebrate both the election of Roosevelt, who was seen as a new ‘captain’ that would steady the ship of the United States, and the end of prohibition.
