VINTAGE DOUBLE HIPPO BROOCH
This is a lovely early vintage design from Lea. Good condition, with signed V pin. There may be reflections of light on the image.Size 6cm X 4.5cm, APPROXIMATELY.
PLEASE NOTE..Lea Stein items are still largely hand made. No two are exactly alike. Pins are attached by hand using a heat process. This can sometimes leave odd looking marks or scratches on the back or around the pin area. This is quite normal and not a defect.

ABOUT ME.. I have had a long and close association with the LEA STEIN® company and have been AN AGENT, promoting and selling their work, for many years. For this reason, I can guarantee that all of my items are 100% authentic. I choose everything personally. They are in good condition unless otherwise stated. I am one of the longest established and knowledgeable sellers of Lea Stein jewellery. I describe them honestly and clearly and I am happy to answer questions. SOME DETAIL ON THE MAKING PROCESS.Before each new design is made, there is a long process of working drawings. This is when each component piece is worked out in detail. Some models have many component pieces, such as Seville, Petruschka, Tennis girl etc. Each component is meticulously hand carved a number of times. These components are then hand assembled into prototypes to find the best combination. They are then refined, sometimes a number of times, until a perfect fit and look is achieved. Only then is the cutting started. The cutting is done using a cellulose acetate. It is bonded together in many, very thin, layers and a huge combination of colours, using a process developed by Fernand Stein. Some of the processes are exclusive to Lea Stein®. The number of layers differs from model to model, and, in some cases, can be up to 50. This allows for some amazing shapes showing the many layers and colours. This is what gives a Stein piece its distinctive look. It is extremely difficult to replicate, which means it is easy to spot cheap copies. Each piece is still completely hand assembled, so no two pieces are exactly alike. There is inlay and overlay work involved as well as hand painting. The final colour layer is achieved in many different ways, including the use of hand painted silks and other materials. Some designs can take up to a year from drawing to final making and polishing.
