Antique Boehm System Grenadilla Wood & Silver C - Flute By W. R. Meinell Of N. Y.
Item History & Price
* Overall length - 68.5 cm.* Length from embouchure center to footjoint bottom - 60.7 cm.* A = about 440
* The Meinell shop was established in 1874 and made flutes considered to be some of the finest flutes of the day. They were very close in design and quality to those of Theobald Boehm in Munich. This flute has a grenadilla wood body and solid silver key mechanism with today's commonly used closed G#. The r...ight hand lever over the F# cup closes the B thumb key instead of the more usually closed Bb key.
* This flute is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. The mechanism is well fitting - almost no side to side play, the springs are all functional, the toneholes and embouchure hole all appear to be original and unmodified. The steels in the mechanism are well lubricated but all the pads and corks need replacement. The only crack in the flute runs up from the headjoint tenon about 3 inches - see photos. It was repaired many years ago and is professionally secured with a wide silver band probably made in the Meinell shop.
* Flute complete with its still solid original case, crutch, and grease jar. A wonderful and historic flute well worth the padding work it needs.
