At auction is an Aires 35-IIIL rangefinder camera with 2 auxiliary lenses made by Aires Camera Industries of Japan between 1957 and 1959. The 35-IIIL model was only made for two years. This camera uses standard 35mm cassettes and produce 24X36mm negatives. It comes with a fixed lens. The lens on with this camera is the coated Aires 4.5cm (45mm) f/1.9 H Coral. It is comprised of 6 elements in 4 groups and the design is similar to the Zeiss Planar. It ...is extremely sharp. The lens has no scratches, fungus or haze. The 5 diaphragm blades are free of oil, grease and rust. The aperture control ring moves smoothly and easily with an aperture range of f/1.9 to f/16. The focus ring also operates smoothly and easily. The camera has a Seikosha - MXL leaf shutter with speeds B, 1 - 2000. Yes, this was the only camera made with a leaf shutter that has speeds up to 1/500 and is. The shutter is in great shape and all speeds work well and sound about right to the ear. The shutter blades also do not have oil, grease, or rust on them. The camera uses the Light Value System (LVS) to more easily control exposures. The shutter speed and the aperture rings are linked so that when you select a shutter speed or an aperture the light value will be the same. you can alter the light value by pulling the aperture ring forward and turning it to a new position, thereby linking the shutter/aperture to a different light level. The camera's viewfinder/rangefinder is clean and clear. The rangefinder focus spot has good contrast and it is well aligned. The viewfinder has a bright-line frame line that has parallax markings for close focusing. The film advance lever works as it should. The camera is in mint- cosmetic condition with only the most minor signs of use. There is no brassing anywhere on the camera's bright or black painted metal parts. All camera functions work well. The camera's original Aires case is included. The case is in superb condition. Included with this sale are two Aires auxiliary lenses that can be screwed into the filter thread of the camera's fixed lens. One of the lenses is a Tele Lens that provides a focal length of 80mm to 90mm. The other lens is Wide-Attachment Lens that provides a focal length of 36mm. Both of these lenses accept 68mm screw-in filters. Both of the lenses come in the original Aires leather cases. The cases are in good- condition as both cases are missing the hinges and the closure snaps, but they are fully intact and they close tightly. The Wide angle lens includes the original lens lens cap that can be exchanged with the Tele lens. Also included with this sale is an Aires 9cm (90mm) bright-line viewfinder that is clean and clear. This is a wonderful vintage camera kit that would please the user and the collector.
