I've owned machines from every major manufacturer and have found the Denon machines to be the best performing and most reliable overall. This is why they command the highest prices on Ebay. This is the last and best Denon machine offered on the market. This unit has the usual Dolby B and C noise reduction, but also incorporates HX Pro and Dolby S, which provide higher headroom and better frequency response at high levels.
A Closed Loop Dual Capstan design, three motors, and thre...e lifetime heads for tape monitoring while recording. Professional XLR or RCA I/O jacks. With rack mount brackets.
As may be seen in the photos, the cosmetics are excellent. It has been thoroughly tested and is fully functional with one exception. The metering display panel does not illuminate. May be a simple connector problem, or a faulty display panel. All the operating keys work normally, as does the capstan variable speed control. Can be used to play or record tapes, just with no level monitoring.
Beware of advertised DN-790 machines that have not had the assist belt replaced recently. Over time, that belt stretches and slips, causing loading problems. This unit has just had a new belt installed.
