Panzerholz is a favorite material for making armboards that has excellent damping qualities. This is perfect for TD124 armboards, helping to tame resonance and vibration in the TD124 chassis, as well as not supporting resonance within itself. Due to the design of the TD124, this is an ideal material for the application.
Especi...ally important for the 3012, or any other armboard for a 12" arm on a TD124, is stiffness. Solid woods and hardwoods are not stiff enough for this purpose. Panzerholz is much more rigid than wood, and is perfect for supporting a 12" arm out beyond the chassis mounting. We cannot stress this enough. Panzerholz is the only material we are using for 12" armboards, and it is fantastic!
Our favorite finish for these boards, is a black catalyzed polyester filler which is sanded completely flat, and then finished in a satin black lacquer. This is the same catalyzed polyester used for finishing instruments and high end pianos, true piano finish. Catalyzed polyester is a very demanding and expensive finish material.
We also offer these armboards in a lacquer only version for $200, machined for your tonearm. Some grain texture will be visible in the lacquer only version, and an example of this can be seen in the photo of the Cocobolo plinthed TD124 on the front edge of the armboard. That armboard is lacquer only. Polyester will fill that, lacquer only, does not. Please inquire for details, we can send an offer to you for specific armboard options.
Each board is carefully fitted to a TD124 chassis to ensure an excellent fit with the mounting holes, and also for machining the tonearm mounting pattern.
4 screws are included for mounting your SME 3012 tonearm. We recommend using these.
We have dozens of these boards made up, in both 9" and 12" versions. We can cut for almost any tonearm. Please contact us to arrange for a board for your tonearm.
This listing is for one armboard for the TD124, cut for an SME 3012, finished in satin black lacquer over catalyzed polyester.
The turntable is not included.
