Today I can offer up for sale a seldom seen, probably pre-WWII vintage American Legion parade-type, WWI "doughboy" style helmet constructed of a light-weight metal (most likely aluminum), and complete with its original gilt brass and enamel inlaid "American Legion" insignia, surmounted by "Massachusetts" and "12" (most likely indicative of a particular post). The helmet is complete with its original, full liner which also still retains its original (albeit a bit shortened), chins...trap, and "Sterilized Comfort" label. The name "Little" is hand written on the helmets interior, as well as on one of the liner's cross-sectioned supports. The only condition liability is a shallow circular dent (depression), plainly visible in the photos, which also subsequently led to some paint loss around its circumference. In addition to the Massachusetts American Legion badge, the helmet is further embellished with a gold painted edge which spans the circumference of the helmets brim. Unlike the quite commonly seen post-WWII M1 helmet liners given a coat of white paint and legion insignia for parade use, the Great War "doughboy" style Legion parade helmets do not show up w/ nearly as much frequency, which is probably not surprising considering that this style of military helmet went out w/ the advent of the M1 in the early '40's, and most of these earlier style helmets were probably disposed of shortly thereafter. Do NOT confuse this style of helmet w/ the commonly seen Civil Defense style helmets...This helmet has the contours and basic overall profile of the Great War Model 1917 and "Kelly" helmets of pre-WWII vintage. If you collect WWII vintage US military or para-military headgear or helmets, don't miss this offering, as from my experience at least, these don't surface very often...
