This auction is for a restored & fully-functional Sony TC-V7 front-loading cassette tape players. This cassette deck is one of Sony's most special & unique cassette decks that they ever produced! Using an innovative front-loading tray system, the deck is no taller than a cassette tape alone! While similar designs were produced by other companies such as Braun/ADS & Denon, this cassette deck was built with unusually high end fe...atures compared to the competitors, including extremely high quality amorphous heads, all-metal shell, auto-reverse, soft-touch controls, & remote control functionality! Unfortunately, these units are quite hard to find now-a-days, not only because they were quite expensive back in the day, but also because they are very difficult to repair! Luckily, this unit is repaired, fully-functional, & ready to be adopted into a loving home! Finally, this unit also includes the very rare "remote control" cable which allows this unit to connect to the Sony ST-V7 for remote control functionality!
I performed the following procedures to this deck:Replaced all the old rubber belts with new beltsRemoved as much old lubrication as possible & lubricated all moving parts with synthetic grease/oilReplaced the old pilot light with a new one (This is a PAIN to do & the deck wont play if it is burned out!)Cleaned the heads with 99% isopropyl alcohol and adjusted the heads to playback my favorite, high-quality pre-recorded tapes with the best fidelity ("Correct" head alignment is more subjective than objective, contrary to popular belief. I like adjusting to pre-recorded tapes vs. Nakamichi/Sony cal. tapes, etc)Cleaned the record level slider
After all these repairs, the player is now fully-functional! The cassette tray moves in & out smoothly. Cassette tape playback speed is stable. FF & RW are torque-y & fast. Auto-reverse works wonderfully. Record mode is entered successfully, but no recordings have been made with the unit. Please see the photos to see the unit in action!
Physically, the unit is in good shape. The VF display is very bright & is not faded. The unit looks excellent when sandwiched in a Sony V-series stack! However, there are some visual issues which are of note. There are some markings to the metal shell of the unit. In addition, the faceplate of the unit also has some signs of wear/use with some scratches and marks. The play button has a slight indent to it from use. One of the rubber feet is missing. Most of these purely visual issues could certainly be fixed with some ingenuity & time! Please see the photos to see the condition of the unit for yourself!
