by R.A.S. MacAlister. Thisbook -- which is today only available in specialty libraries -- covers thehistory of Palestine, from its very earliest years through to the beginning of the Twentieth Century. Although it looks at a huge swath of history, during which the area was occupied by many different cultures, emphasis really seems to favour the Jewish elements of this history. (And this was published well before the establishment of the Sta...te of Israel in 1947). Most of the material also seems to concentrate on archaeological remains from various sites, with a few of them illustrated with photographic plates or drawings. I've scanned the Table of Contents, so you can see what's covered in the book.
The book is a hardcover, bound in reddish cloth with black embossed title & design on spine & cover. It is 140 pages long, and also includes a fold-out map at the back. It measures about 5 x 7 inches, and was published by Cambridge University Press in 1912. It is in pretty good condition -- certainly not mint, but not bad for a century-old book. Lots of general shelf-wear, but overall the cover is clean & the binding tight. The spine has cracked slightly at front and back (though it's still intact & all the pages are tight). There is also a former owner's name inside the front cover that has been scratched out, and possibly a library card-pocket removed. There is a stamp inside the book -- on page iii and 1) that says it used to belong to the "Teacher's Institute of the Jewish Theological Seminary" (which I believe was in New York City, and I think is a nice complement to the book! The map at the back is totally intact. I've tried to give a good view of the condition in the photos I took, so please check out the scans for better details.
The top bidder should add $5.99 for postage inCanada, or $12.50 for mailing to the United States. Please check out my otherhistorical books, as multiple books are always combined for cheaper postage. Fullrefund if not happy! Thanks for looking!
