VINTAGE SAS EXT RARE 21 SAS REGIMENTAL PUBLICATION 1960 & 21 SAS 1960 PROGRAMME
Item History & Price
A very nice original British 21 SAS Regimental Publication.... AND a very rare item, I personally have never seen one of these before and cant find another one for sale anywhere !!! ...perhaps not suprising as it was very a small print limited purchase item....published as part of the original 21 SAS Centenary Celebrations ( 1860 Artists Rifles - 21 SAS 1960 ).... and amazingly still with its equally rare Card Programme of "21 st Special Air Service Regiment (Artists ) 21 SAS Centenary Celebrations (1860 - 1960 )" .(The 21st SAS Regiment was formed in 1947 from the Artists Rifles raised in 1860.)Some creasing to edges of soft card cover of book but otherwise both items overall in nice original condition...please refer photos for best condition report. The book was privately published in 1960 by the 21 SAS Regiment... quoting from inside page..."Published by 21ST SPECIAL AIR SERVICE REGIMENT ( ARTISTS T.A., ) 1960
Published under the title "The ARTISTS AND THE SAS" by B A Young. Card cover size about 14cm by 22cm with 63 pages and .....9 B/W photos of 21 SAS / 2 of WW2 SAS / and 7 of THE ARTISTS RIFLES".
The inside cover has "£12 S & D" in pencil, I think this must be the original price in 1960, quite expensive in 1960 but of course any money would have gone to regimental funds and this would have been a limited print run purely for very limited purchase and so quite expensive to produce in the first place.
This must be an extremely rare SAS collectors item .....we have searched the top source and highly regarded bookfinder.com which has inventory of over 150 million books from over 100, 000 booksellers worldwide ...nothing! Nor on Ebay Uk, or Ebay USA!Further extensive research showed just one copy ( possibly two/ ...its not very clear ? ) once sold on Amazon but no details of when or price are available.
The other item is a two sided folding card giving details of the 21 SAS Celebrations to mark the 100 year centenary of the Artist Rifles/ 21 SAS Regt and entitled...." 21 st Special Air Service Regiment (Artists ) 21 SAS Centenary Celebrations (1860 - 1960 )" . and lists 18 events throughout the year such as Sergeants Mess Dinner at HQ; SAS Reunion; and various other events and concluding with the "The Annual Christmas Carol Candle Concert Headquarters". This may well be of greater rarity than the book, the card was designed to be folded but is still in its original unfolded condition!
Please Note these items were published over half a century ago and contain no details other than those of historical interest. These items were part of the kit of a Sergeant in 21 SAS ( 1947- 1972); most of the items were originally sold on Ebay, this is part of the odd items I have kept but have decided to sell.As a military historian I like to keep any information with items I sell so have included the following... SergeantJames Matthew Rowley, or ?Jimmy? as he was known in the Regiment apparentlyjoined 21 SAS as a trooper just after its formation in 1947. Originally from Northumberland, Jimmy was an excellent swimmer and a staunch Roman Catholic and went on toserve in 21 SAS until 1972.JamesMatthews Rowley born 20 th December 1927.
