Offered for sale is a Realistic STA-84 stereo receiver. This receiver was introduced in 1977 having an MSRP of $300. Features include: Built in Quatravox synthesizes 4 channel sound from ordinary 2 channel sources, all you need to do is add two more speakers; FET FM front end for excellent sensitivity and reduced noise; Realistic's exclusive Auto-Magic tuning dramatically simplifies FM tuning; Wideband tuner provides the maximum AM fidelity; Dual glidepath volume controls eliminate the... balance knob; Black out dial with a dial pointer that changes from yellow to red upon stereo reception. Very conservatively rated at 25 watts per channel. When I first acquired this receiver it played wonderfully but had some minor issues. It had no rubber feet and two of the five dial lights were out. I have an STA 84 parts receiver that I was able to scavenge off the rubber feet from. Soldered in new dial lamps, all five of them. Cleaned both sides of the face plate. Removed the dial glass and cleaned both sides of it. Removed the bottom cover and cleaned the top of it. Dusted out the insides with an air compressor and cleaned the surfaces with Q tips and alcohol. Cleaned the controls with deoxit, they now all work smoothly and quietly. Tested it and everything works as designed. FM sounds great, plays records perfectly with no hum or distortion, AM works fine and actually sounds pretty decent. Aux input works fine. Didn't test the tape inputs/outputs or the headphone jack but I'm assuming they work. A nice vintage receiver, not mint but in very good condition. The front face plate has no scratches, marks, dings or worn lettering. The real walnut veneered wood cabinet does have some a few scratches on the top but is very looks good and is very presentable. If the cabinet was flawless I'd be calling it mint and would be asking much more for it.The owners manual can be downloaded free of charge from HiFi Engine.
