UNIQUE DARLOT OPTCIEN PARIS LENS WITH EARLY ADJUSTABLE APERTURE MECHANISM. Four fixed apertures are individually selectable. One of three apertures is selected by pressing down on one of the three levers projecting from the lens barrel. Pressing a lever displaces the previously selected aperture. The aperture selection mechanism works smoothly. The lens consists of two air spaced elements. The front element has a white reticulated coati...ng (fungus??) on its rear surface which obscures the optics. The front surface of the front element is clear (see fotos). The lens has three other markings: a stylized "AD"; "B.F.& Co", and the serial number 3099. The barrel measures 36 mm in diameter, and overall lens length is 27 mm. There are no dents on this lens. This adjustable aperture mechanism obviously represents an important step in the evolution of the iris diaphragm, and therefore merits a place in photographic history. It is a very nice display piece, and is returnable for any reason.
