Rarely seen all original 1890s David P. Clark hillclimber friction-driven touring car. Hillclimber toys were made by only a few American toy manufacturers from the late 1800s until the 1930s when they were displaced by tin wind-up and electrically propelled toys. Just like newer friction toys you get the wheels moving by setting down on preferable carpet move forward lift and do this several times while getting the wheels moving to spin the cast iron fly wheel and the toy propels itsel...f across a surface. Very high tech for 100+ years ago. Trains were the usual inspiration for these ingenious toys however many depicted cars, boats, animals, sleds, etc. all with the heavy cast iron flywheels. Clark hillclimbers are distinguished by the imaginative blend of tin, wood, and cast iron forming highly detailed pieces. This hillclimber has not been restored, functions correctly, and is very good condition for its age. It is approximately 10 1/2" long x 7" high x 4" wide and is quite heavy due to its flywheel.
