CUSTOM GLOSS BLACK COLEMAN MODEL 228E DOUBLE MANTLE LANTERN MADE IN JANUARY 1960

Welcome to a Happy-Campers2 Auction! Up for auction, and your consideration, is this Custom Black Coleman Model 228E Lantern!
The Coleman Company produced the 220/228 series of lanterns from the 1920s to the 1980s. As changes were made during the production, a letter suffix was added to the model number. The Model 220/228Es were produced from 1951 until 1963. The 228E in this auction was made originally made in January of 1960.Every once in aw...hile, when the chance shows up, we like to do a little "custom" restoration. While at the powder coater, we saw how beautiful black looked on a few items on display. We figured, "what the hell" and decided to have a 228 fount refinished in black. As can be seen in the picures, the black fount has an awesome loook.The black vent was restored by Independence Porcelain Enterprises, also in black. The vent and the fount look great together for a great custom look.The burner frame has been cleaned but there is some visible tarnish. Upon reassembly, it received a new fuel cap gasket and generator. The pump leather has been oiled. The lantern pumps up and holds pressure. The lantern has been fueled. When the valve is opened, there is the familiar hiss and gurgle of a working lantern. The decal is a era correct vinyl replacement and the lantern has a white letter made in USA globe. . This lantern would be a great addition to anyone's Coleman collection. Or, it could be used as intended 60 years ago to light up your campsite! Please see photos:
PACKING: We pack your items the same way we would want to receive them. That is, we pack to minimize any chance of breakage. Lanterns are disassembled of globe, vent and bail handle. The globe is bubble wrapped and then placed in a coffee can or separate carton before being placed in the shipping carton. All other pieces are bubble wrapped and all voids are packed with suitable light weight material so all parts are immobilized inside the shipping carton. Fuel will be emptied from all lanterns & stove before shipping! SHIPPING: We use USPS Retail Ground for the majority of our domestic shipping. International shipping is via Priority Mail International. Of course, if your item is within First Class weight limitations, we will ship First Class Mail, both international and domestic. We will combine shipping when possible. Please feel free to email us for a shipping estimate. We try to ship your item within 24 hours of received payment.NOTE: Since we do use PayPal and eBay shipping, it is impossible for us to change the final price of an auctioned item. We are sorry, but we are unable to falsify any final sales price to avoid tariffs or other fees. If the eBay shipping calculator appears incorrect, please contact us for a shipping estimate. We will also attempt to find a less expensive shipping alternative when possible. PAYMENT: We accept PayPal. Payment is due within 2 days of auction's end!
