VintageComputer Component – Rare Punched Paper Tape Loop #2
Would make a great and uncommon prop for vintage computer display!
This circa 1960’spunched paper tape loop was used in the 60’s and 70’s as a form of datastorage. They are very similar toHollerith punch cards which were invented in the late 1800’s and used for the 1890US census. It is amazing to me that thisrather crude technology stuck around for so long as it did. I believe the exampl...es I am offering wereused to sequence computer equipment that was assigned to a repetitive tasksince they are configured in a loop. Alight would shine through the holes when the tape passed through and a photosensor would pick up the gaps signaling the computer. Punched tap on spools would be used tobootstrap old systems or enter programs otherwise the 1s and 0s had to beentered manually with switches into registers one at a time which is a verytime consuming process. Most computersof this era did not use keyboards to enter data.
This particular punchedtape is a 13” loop which is 1” wide. Itis made of paper and shows use wear.
I started collectingvintage computer components in the early 80’s, long before they became mainstream. I appreciated them for theirhistorical significance marking the rapid advancement of technologies. What was once considered scrap or a curiosityis now highly desirable to savvy collectors witnessed by the prices they now realize. Vintage computer parts are one of the fewcollectables that have been rapidly increasing in value, especially ultra-rareitems that now fetch record prices and continue to increase in value.
It is time for me tolet go of these items since I have been storing them for over threedecades. I am starting forget theimportance of some items having to rely on my own “memory” instead of notes. I do enjoy researching them on the internetwhich was not available at the time I started collecting them. It is time to reintroduce them to the marketnow that they are more widely cherished.
Shipping Costs: FreeUS First Class Mail fee in the US. Shippingoverseas will be $14.00 Via USPS First Class Mail. I do combine shipping on multiple items. I ship items within one business day ofpayment and do not profit from shipping. I simply pass the costs on.
Thank you very much for looking and if you are bidding, goodluck!
