I buy vintage linens at local estate auctions to pass them along to you, and I always look for antique clothing and accessories. I've just found a wonderful lot from the 1900s with some real treasures.
I was so excited to get these: a pair of matched panels of early 1900s tambour lace panels. Each panel measures 75" long by 25.5" wide, and has mellowed to a cream white color. These have such a beautiful lace: the long edges are scalloped and have an appliquéd flow...er motif that is about 4" wide. In the center of each panel there is a continuous row of medallions, each measuring about 9.5" wide by 10.5" long. To my eye these have an Art Nouveau look. At the top there is a 1" placket, as shown; the bottoms are left raw and unfinished, also shown. Please use the zoom function to see all the great details. Some of the photos show the two panels overlapped in the center; that makes it slightly easier to see the discolored areas.
When I found these, they were quite dirty and had a very musty odor. I have hand laundered them and given them a pressing, and found the fabric to be in sound condition - soft and not brittle. However, there are some issues you need to know about. There are several areas of discoloration; these faded but did not disappear with one washing. There are also some broken connectors as you would expect with curtains of this age. There are no long rips or tear and the funky odor has disappeared. I have tried to give you a good realistic look at these; yes, there are faults but these are GORGEOUS. They could be used just as they are for a 1900s look. They are quite a find! I see listings for these with astronomical prices but I want to make sure you are getting good value for your money, so I'm starting them at a lower price. Please write in if you have more questions.
