Original Description:
Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a somewhat rare and good looking RCA BK-A1 pressure microphone first produced in the early 1950's. It was seen being used in just about any speech given by John F Kennedy as seen in pic # 2 or Martin Luther King at that time.  This Microphone has been thoroughly tested and cleaned. It currently has a strong working signal and set a...t Low impedance. This is actually one of the stronger BK-A1 mics I have ever heard and has it's original element. If you are looking for this model of RCA mic to actually use for recording or broadcasting then this will certainly not disappoint and it comes with an even rarer RCA MI-11008 model desk stand specifically made for this microphone. You have to remember though that a low impedance and has a tad more bass to it so this actually sounds a bit more like today's mics. More of a mid range sound really. If that is what you are looking for then you wont have any issues.  This RCA mic was a smaller, lightweight microphone back in the day and easy to carry around. These days she's a bit bigger than what most would want for a "small" microphone but who wouldn't want to display an old classic mic like this in their home, office or studio? She's about 2/3 the size of an E.V 664 microphone. This older RCA mic comes in it's original condition. The umber gray brown paint scheme shows typical lite signs of lite wear in the paint but looks way above average based on the BK-A1's I have seen. The finish is smooth to the touch.   The original metal grill shows no tarnish or corrosion and the metal screen is great. The 3 foot cable is pliable and soft. It comes with a quality Switchcraft male XLR end connector. Original RCA "meatball" logo is still in place and shows almost no wear. Mic comes with the satin chrome joint mechanism that has the thread pattern for use with it's original RCA desk stand. Joint mechanism has plenty of resistance as would be expected for this model of RCA mic and you can get just the right angle needed.  The joint mechanism shows typical wear and there is a little brass exposed where the chrome has wore off. If you detach this mic from the base and screw in an RCA AD-1 adapter...you can then screw this onto any American desk or floor stand. I do have the AD-1 adapters for sale. This microphone was ideal for vocals and broadcasting Back in the day. An easy 7 + on a cosmetic scale of 1 - 10. Below are stats on the microphone and it's performance characteristics... The Type BK-1A pressure Microphone is a high-fidelity instrument of the pressure-actuated type, especially designed for announcing and remote pickup. Its smooth response and frequency range (60 to 10, 000 cycles) make it suitable for reproducing both music and speech. It is effectively non-directional when mounted vertically and is semi-directional when mounted horizontally. The moving element consists of a lightweight molded diaphragm attached to an annular coil assembly which is placed within a magnetic field. Coupled to the diaphragm is an acoustic circuit so proportioned that the diaphragm velocity remains essentially constant for a constant sound pressure from 60 to 10, 000 cycles. The coil is connected to a transformer which provides output impedances of 30, 150, and 250 ohms. When mounted vertically the BK-1A Microphone is non-directional with the higher frequencies uniformly attenuated. When mounted horizontally, the microphone is essentially non-directional for frequencies below 2, 000 cycles, and the higher frequencies are attenuated more as the angle with the perpendicular line to the diaphragm increases.  MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE... The stand is an all metal design with a modern look. It's an RCA MI-11008 model and comes with original paint and bottom gasket / pad. The stand makes a very stable platform for this mic.  As you can see there is a bit of typical wear in the form of scratches, scuff marks and small paint chips. Still a good looking base and almost too nice to bother repainting. The stand has a large thumb screw on the bottom of the base that allows you to detach the mic. Total height with mic and stand is 8 inches high X 4 1/4 inches wide.
As with all my vintage microphones... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the original purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating.
