Initially I would have categorized this wonderful imposing large brooch as an Art Nouveau piece of Czech jewellery, however over the years my opinion has changed and I now think the design has more to do with gothic revivalism - the brooch is cruciform and the arched filigree motifs appear to me to be in a gothic style, the main photo most clearly demonstrates this.Manufactured from gilded brass, the ornate, domed filigree base is liberally embellished with the aforementioned motifs an...d flowers, it is also strewn with small faceted, prong-set, mirror-back, red, blue, green, yellow and purple glass stones; occupying the centre is a large emerald cut, prong-set, open back yellow glass stone.In spite of age-related wear to the gilding and a few dots of verdigris, the brooch is in very good condition, the brass has developed a pleasing patina and none of the stones are missing, damaged or replacements. Finally the pin (albeit rather loose) fastens securely via a C-clasp (in addition a safety chain is attached).Length: 2 and 1/2 inches / 6.5 cms. approx.Please note, because of the need to enlarge photos to show detail and condition, jewellery may appear larger than it really is.Payment within 21 days please.Free postage for UK buyers and a flat rate of £6.00 for international buyers.
