This is an early original lathe turned treenware wood traveler's inkwell with spring loaded pontiled glass bottle inside! 2 1/4"tall x 2 1/8"round.....rope twist design around edge of shoulder.....threaded lip screws down tight and nice.....excellent working condition; spring loaded base pushes the blown glass bottle up tightly against the lid when screwed down to prevent ink from leaking. The blown glass bottle is aqua with a crude rolled in lip, so I'm certain the bottle... is pontiled. Sparkling mint condition with no chips or damage. A nice clean inkwell from the 1840s or 50s, if not earlier.
