Vintage Spalding Gold Medal Wood 1 Lb. Indian Club Exercise Juggling Pin
Item History & Price
This is an antique Spalding Gold Medal wooden Indian club. Indian clubs, now more often called exercise or juggling pins are strength training aids. They originiated in India and Persia, and British soldiers brought the idea back in the 19th century - making a lighter more tapered version. They became very popular in Europe and America especially in the late 19th century through World War Ii, though they were used through the 1930's. Exercisers performed often e...laborate routines, usually using one in each hand. They were used by the US Army for training soldiers for World War I. There is new interest in them today because they are effective not only for strength training but for developing coordination, cardiovascular health and a strong grip. The club is the 1 pound size, though it weighs a bit less - it's15 3/4 inches high and about 3 inches in diameter at the widest. The Spalding logo is readable but has some wear, the the club has a chip, some scrapes and 2 gouges.
