This item is a set of 3 vintage Villeroy & Boch 'Le Cirque' and 'Le Ballon' dishes designed by Jean Mercier.
Included in the set are:
1 tumbler - Le Ballon (bird) - 3 1/2" tall and 3 1/8" wide.1 Cereal / Soup Bowl - Le Cirque - 5 1/4" wide and 2 1/8" tall.1 Child Plate - Le Cirque - 8 1/4" wide.This set of dishes are in very good condition.There are some moderate and noticeable utensil marks and signs of usage on the plate, light interior utensil marks in the bowl and a f...ew light surface scratches on the tumbler exterior.
There are no cracks, chips, crazing or repairs.
All three pieces are clearly marked with the designer's signature on the bottom.Please see photos for details.This 3 piece set of Villeroy & Boch child dishes are a part of a highly collectable and retired watercolor series that were designed by Jean Mercier.The 'Ballon' series were produced from 1984 - 1988, and the 'Cirque' series were produced from 1986 - 1989.The graphic designer Jean Adrien Mercer (1899-1995) was a French illustrator and advertising designer.He began his career in 1924 as a designer of publicity and cinema posters.At the end of the 1930's, Monsieur Mercier began producing illustrations for children's books and fairy tales.At the same time he was also producing paintings for calender's and book covers, but it was the cinema posters that he was renown for.This beautiful set of dishes are about 30 years old.Unlike the Villeroy & Boch made these days in Asian factories, these vintage pieces were manufactured in Europe with a higher quality porcelain base.The color patterns are also much clearer on the older European made porcelain than the newer Asian models.The fascinating graphic design of elephants and tigers used in this service will take both young and old back to the magical world of imagination, where anything is possible!This set would compliment any array of fine china and collectables.They would also work great for a child of today!This Villeroy & Boch child's dish set will be carefully packaged and shipped to youfree of charge.
