DESCRIPTION:This auction is for a French made black/brown doll with painted socket head and jointed wood composition doll body. I believe the head is a papier-mache or painted bisque. Her body is jointed at the shoulders, elbows, wrists and hips with all fingers intact. Reference shows similar dolls made by SFBJ Paris, France 1910+. SFBJ (Société Française de Fabrication de Bébés et Jouets; also referred to as S.F.B.J.) was the last of the great French doll making comp...anies. Formed at the nadir of French doll making at the end of the 19th Century. The back of this dolls hair/pate is glued down so I did not remove it to look for a makers name. I lifted her wig/pate carefully from the front to flash inside with light and do not see any cracks or damage to the head. She has a "sweet" face with stationary open brown glass eyes, painted straight lashes below the eyes, black eye brows, she has open mouth with upper teeth. She has pierced ears and wears old wire earrings in the ears, they look very old. Her wig shows some overall wear, it is glued secure on a pate on her head, may need a little styling. She is wearing her original outfit with attached net slip, panties, stockings and black shoes. I do not know if her shoes are her original shoes. This is a great antique French doll with "sweet" face for collection or display! I have taken plenty of photos please look at my photos to serve as part of this description.
