MODEL, FEATURES, CONDITION: Portable AM/FM radio is in excellent cosmetic and working condition. The GE Model 7-2880B is a desirable model in their series of Superadios; one of the more attractively styled radios GE has ever released, and one of the best sounding as well with fidelity that will shame the typical portable. When I listened to AM on this set, I swore I was listening to FM, as the sound was so clear without the typical hash that often plagues AM rec...eption. Dial lens is crystal clear, front panel and knobs look excellent. There are no nicks or cracks, and the black metal grille looks flawless without dents. Radio has been detailed, and you won’t find dust or grime in the typical hiding places. Handle works fine and folds back when not needed. Radio has excellent reception, and if you are an avid AM band listener, this radio is known to really pull in distant stations with its built in ferrite rod antenna, and especially with a wire connected to the rear AM terminal. FM is a pleasure to listen to with separate bass and treble adjustable fidelity from the large circular speaker. The telescoping antenna has been repaired on this set, and fully extends for excellent for FM reception. As a result of the repair, the antenna no longer tucks all the way back in, but this is not a bothersome issue, as the antenna still tucks neatly on top of the radio as seen in photo. There’s an earphone jack on the right hand panel for private listening. Radio can be powered by its built-in AC power cord OR by using six Size D cells. There’s not a trace of corrosion in the battery compartment, and the protective cover latches in securely as it should. Dial cursor moves freely across the dial, and the On/Off switch is conveniently located on the top right. All in all, hard to go wrong on a clean detailed example of one of the finest AM/FM portables out there. SHIPPING: Radio measures 12.4 inches wide and stands 9 inches tall with the handle tucked, and is 3.7 inches from front of knobs to the back panel (old 6.5 Oz Coke bottle in one photo will give a better sense of scale). I’ve shipped well over a thousand delicate radios all over the world for the past 20 years on eBay with finest packing materials and methods, so no worries.
