US Navy WW2 F6F HELLCAT FIGHTER SQUADRON GUNNERY OFFICER ID ' D DOG TAG EXC Vtg
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:7527460 |
US Navy officers of WW2 were issued a set of "dog tags" to aid in identification if they were incapacitated, or worse. This US Navy WW2 F6F HELLCAT FIGHTER SQUADRON GUNNERY OFFICER ID'D DOG TAG is in excellent condition, with some light patina at front and back, a spot of dark residue at the middle reverse, missing the second tag, missing the chain, and with some light scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the dog tag is in excellent shape, with absolutely no cracki...ng or other damage to the crisp aluminum construction. Most interestingly, it boasts a contrived hole in each side, and is stamped at front with the name "FINN, / CORYDON T.", along with his service number, "298123", his blood type, "O", "T9-43" (denoting a Tetanus shot in September 1943), and "USNR.". Lieutenant Corydon T. Finn served as a Gunnery Officer with VF-7 aboard the Essex-class carrier USS Hancock from 1944-1945. "Lucky Seven" flew F6F Hellcats off the Hancock during the epic Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944, followed by constant attacks against Japanese shipping, airfields, and installations in the Philippines until the end of their tour in January 1945. A beautiful example of a rare, original US Navy WW2 F6F HELLCAT FIGHTER SQUADRON GUNNERY OFFICER ID'D DOG TAG. Now celebrating over 15 years on eBay.
