Vintage WW2 USAAF Cargo Bag / Duffle Bag, dated 1944. Heavy duck canvas, bag weighs 2.5lbs. In excellent condition, nice dark color, rubber lining insid...e is near perfect. Laid flat measures about 42X23.” Made in USA by The John Igelstroem Co. The Veteran's name is M/Sgt Thomas F. Murray, AF-13028942 written on Bag.
I befriended Tom Murray in the early 1980s and helped him write his memoirs. He served in the China-Burma-India Theater with the 341st Bomb Group, 491st Bomb Squadron “Ringers” in 1943, and was“volunteered” to join the First Air Commandos with Johnny Alison, Phil Cochran, and Flying Tiger (AVG) R.T. Smith, among other notables. After 48 Combat Missions, he was transferred, briefly, into the 490th Bomb Squadron “Burma Bridge Busters” with the 14th Air Force, before being rotated Stateside. He was Top Turret Gunner / Flight Engineer in B-25s throughout his tour in the CBI.
Tom was recalled for the Berlin Airlift and flew missions on C-47s and C-54s. He continued his role as a Flight Engineer and Crew Chief. He served with Military Air Transport Service (MATS) until retirement. He took his last flight in April of 1991. Please look for other items from Tom Murray as soon as I can photograph and post them! Thanks

About Me:I am returning to eBay after quite a few years, to pass on some wonderful, Collectible items from my personal 35+ year collection of Museum-quality memorabilia. My focus has primarily been on WW2 China-Burma-India (CBI) Theater; the 33rd Fighter Group and its 58th, 59th, 60th, and ‘Joker’ Fighter Squadrons;and Mid-Century USAF Cold War era Aviation. But I have met Veterans from many other War zones over the years too, so I have a great cross-section of Historical mementos to offer.
I have always been interested primarily in the personal story and history of the veteran who passed his or her memorabilia on to me and a lot of what I will be offering on eBay will be in the form of ‘Groupings.’ In many cases I may be able to offer further details to the winning bidder from my own research or in the form of personal correspondence(letters and other information) from the Veterans or their families.I have enjoyed these items and shared them with others at commemorative events, exhibits, displays at Museums and Embassies and veteran-related events for all these years. Thanks for checking it out, and watch for many more items to come!
