1 Leaf With Rare Monogram Of " MARTYR " In A Coptic Manuscript

First of all, you will never see another leaf likethis one! This Coptic leaf has two instances of an extremely rare and uniqueChristian monogram that beautifully shows the Greek word "Martus, " in the form Mαρτυς (with an upper-case "M") orμαρτυς (with a lower-case "m"), which means "A Witness, " and this word later developed into the meaning of "A Witness that led to his death" or "Martyr." The monogram consists of "M" in the form of μ, &nb...sp;with the Greek letter rho, which looks like a "p" on top. This Christian monograph can be seen in the 1st and 2nd scanned images, 7th line from the top, 2nd word from the left. This monogram looks almost like the Christogram, since the bottom of the μ looks like the horizontal bar of the cross of crucifixion and the head of Jesus (seen in the Greek letter rho, which looks like a "p"), becoming a Christogram.
This is a rare illuminated Coptic Christian Bible manuscript leaf. The date that this manuscript was written is estimated tobe early 19th century. On paper, with somediscoloration, especially around the edges of the page, due to age andliturgical use over the centuries. Total size of the page is about 4 3/4 in. x 6 3/4 in. The Coptic text in its distinctive and beautiful largeuncial letters is found on both sides of the leaf. There are severalinstances of red and green rubrication in letters and words, as well as diacritical andpunctuation marks. This Coptic leaf also has several words which have been translated, as follows: six instances of "Christ, " "Jesus, " "People, " ten instances of "Holy, " "Law, " and "David." This is truly an amazing and beautiful leaf.
