This is a very early M40 WWII GERMAN HELMET LINER. Its all aluminium constructed band is a carry over from the M35. These later became steel bands.
This liner is "SALTY" Hanging on by a thread.
However, all remaining parts are usable, such as a great marked band with M40 style rounded corner "D" rings, and felt sweat band insert. Included is the original tie string. All metal parts are intact and very movable..Maker Marked :METALL-LEDERVERARBEITUNG W.Z.BLN. CH'BURG 568 NA / 6019...40
