The Louisiana Calendar 1910. Newcomb College calendar designed by Alice Rosalie Urquhart(1854-1922), with French Quarter scenes and Louisiana landscapes, interspersed with poetry and prose by Mollie Evelyn Moore Davis(penname M. E. M. Davis; 1844-1909), probably as a tribute to the poet, writer, and editor of the New Orleans Picayune; 9 pages including cover bound with original cord. Rosalie Urquhart, born in New York on Sept. 27, 1854, came to New Orleans and lived at 84 Esplanade. Sh...e matriculated in Saturday Art at Newcomb on Nov. 1, 1887 and from then on took work at irregular times. Records show that she received a diploma in Normal Art in 1890; was enrolled in Special Art in 1890-91; was a Normal Art student in 1900-1901; received a Diploma in Art in 1901; was a graduate art student in 1901-2; was in pottery design during the sessions 1904-5, 1905-6, and 1906-7; and was an art craftsman in 1909-15 and 1916-17. Her exhibitions included that at the crafts show at Newcomb in April, 1911, where her architectural drawing of a plantation house attracted much attention. At the Newcomb Art Alumnae Association show in December, 1910, and again in 1913, she exhibited Louisiana calendars; one especially attractive set was an original account of the beauties of the Vieux Carre. As a matter of fact, she seems to have exhibited year after year in a style of archaic simplicity, as one of the reviews of that time stated. She died February 21, 1922(Louisiana's Art Nouveau-The Crafts Of The Newcomb Style(pp. 170-71)
