Astro - Berlin 25mm F2. 0 Arri - S Cine Lens 35mm 4k Arriflex Std. Very Rare
Item History & Price
Originally used in 35mm motion picture cinematography
The 25mm Astro-Berlin, along with Angenieux's trio of wides (24mm, 18.5mm, 14.5mm), were among the very first true wide-angle lenses to find extensive use in the film industry. Prior to their arrival in the late 1950's and early 60's, filmmakers had to make due with 35mm as their widest option.
This prime is in very nice cosmetic condition asid...e from a few instances of minor paint loss along with a small hole that was added at some point in its life. Optically, there's NO haze, mold, fungus, scratches, specks, nor oil on its blades. There is however some superficial wear to its lens coating, along with slight signs of separation around the extreme perimeter of the front element, though well outside the visual path.
This is relatively common for an Astro 25mm of this vintage (early 1960's). Neither the coating wear, nor the peripheral issues affect the prime's performance in any way, which has always been exceptional.
I've included several random pics I took with the lens this past weekend (3/24/19). The close-up shots seen below were achieved by mounting the lens slightly forward in my Arri-S to Sony E-mount adapter, replicating a macro tube effect. Both sets of photos were taken handheld with my NEX-3. The adapter I used for these examples is one of the no-frills variety, but to properly focus this legacy lens as it was designed will require one of the more elaborate Arri adapters which effectively allows the lens barrel to rotate within its mount.
For both film and digital shooters seeking to achieve that hard-to-pin-down 1960's & 70's cinema verite look, this old-school Astro-Berlin may just be the glass you're looking for!.

=================================================================================NOTE: All proceeds from auction sales are being devoted entirely to the creation of my first feature length film. Set in the 1960's, the flick is a sentimental ode to classic Japanese sci-fi cinema. Despite its minuscule budget, the project is jam-packed with giant mutated meanies, flying saucers, classic hot rods and daringly-dressed vixens. All realized with traditional 35mm cameras and practical, old school FX.
Absolutely NO CGI whatsoever!
Should any kind person purchase one of my items, they'll be directly funding my small-scale efforts to keep the fast-vanishing art of celluloid filmmaking alive.
